. >>> we're getting word of a lawsuit with major implications for professional football. cnn's casey wian is joining us from los angeles with details. casey, tell us about this lawsuit. >> well, wolf, junior seau, the former nfl middle linebacker, his family, including his four children, his ex-wife and the trustee of his estate are suing the national football league for wrongful death, fraud, and negligence. they're saying the league failed to protect him from repeated blows to the head that ultimately led him to commit suicide in may of last year. the seau family is also suing riddell, which manufacturers helmets for the nfl. the lawsuit claims that the league was, quote, aware of the risks that were associated with repetitive traumatic brain injuries for many decades, but deliberately ignored and actively concealed the information from the players, including the late junior seau. the suit also claims that the nfl promotes violence and brutality to sustain its $9 billion a year business. now, the league has declined comment on the suit. riddell says it's confident in the integrity of it

. these are the top stories we're following right now in the "cnn newsroom." >>> tragic news out of brazil. at least 233 people have died in an early morning fire in a crowded nightclub in the city of santa maria. college students were jammed inside celebrating the end of their summer vacation when the blaze broke out about 2:00 in the morning. let's go to rafael romo with the latest. rafael, how did this fire start? >> there was a concert and part of the concert included using pyrotechnics and apparently part of the initial investigation points to the fact that it might have been started that way. there was insulation, there was foam insulation on the ceiling and that might have been a possibility. now the problem is that the place was grossry clouded. authorities say it was built for about 1,000 people and there were more than 2,000 there. when the fire started with dense smoke and flames, people were frantically trying to get out of the place and that's when the problem became worse, miguel. >> rafael. many of the dead found in the bathrooms there. why was that the case? >> it was impossible for

situation room." >>> and the breaking news continues here in cnn. we're covering the country's latest multiple shooting incident on a college campus. three people, at least two of them were students caught in a cross fire. a fourth person suffered a heart attack during the shooting. it all happened near houston, texas, on the north harris campus of lone star college. that's a community college in texas. cnn's ed lavandera has the latest. ed, what are you hearing? >> reporter: this shooting appears to be a situation that started off as an altercation in one of the buildings between two people. one of those firing shots was wounded and is now in custody. two people were caught in the crossfire and those people were wounded and then there was a fourth person that in all of this may lay had a heart attack. that person is being treated as well. and now the focus is on the second shooter, the second person in the altercation. that person fled the campus itself. the officials say that everything is safe and secure now on the campus but the search for that second suspect is the main concern a
